Let it Grow
About Project
“Let it Grow” by Gail from New York features floral applique and sawtooth stars. I chose dense matchstick quilting in the inner borders to highlight Gail’s meticulously round appliqued circles, to add texture, and help the floral blocks “pop” from the background. The outer borders called for a simpler approach due to the bold print, but I still wanted to make a statement that helped to frame the real stars of the show. Ruler quilted arches combined with the straight lines help to give the borders visual weight while drawing the eye to the main focal point. I chose to echo the appliqued flowers in a lighter color thread, with free motion swirls, paisley feathers, and floral motifs in a darker thread help to add visual interest while appearing to settle in the background. This quilt was so lovely to work on and really helped me flex by creative muscles in some new ways. Thanks for trusting me with your quilt, Gail!
